Delhi Public School Siliguri Model United Nations

Delhi Public School Siliguri Model United Nations

Given the nationwide lockdown which is imposed on public gatherings, the MUN circuit, especially that of Siliguri, is undergoing an enormous change. There has been a major shift towards online conferences, which has been primarily spearheaded by private entities with a lack of proper registration. This dearth of legitimacy and abundance of MUNs has paved the way for schools to start conducting their own MUNs online. DPS Siliguri, as the torchbearer of MUNs in the city, is not far behind. The alumni of DPS Siliguri, as a part of furthering their alma mater's aim of providing holistic academic and co-curricular education, plan to host an online Model United Nations Conference- Delhi Public School Siliguri Model United Nations!

A Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations, where youth and leaders of tomorrow role-play delegates from different UN Member-States, and deliberate on global issues.

Committees that are to be simulated -

  • Committee 1 : United Nations Security Council
Agenda - Protection of civilians in armed conflicts with special emphasis on the current situation in Syria.
  • Committee 2 : United Nations Human Rights Council
Agenda - An urgent debate on systemic racism, police brutality and violence against peaceful protests.
  • Committee 3 : Lok Sabha
Agenda - Deliberation on Population Control Bill, 2019 and framework for amending Article 47 of the Constitution.
  • Committee 4 : Emergency Special Session of General Assembly

The online platform will be revealed in a few days, but rest assured, it will be easily accessible through your mobile phones or laptops, with no special technical requirements.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic has drastically affected regions across the country, the MUN will also have a social aspect to help the less fortunate.
