With Diwali round the corner, the students of Delhi Public School, Siliguri took a pledge in a special morning assembly led by the principal of the school, Amber Banerjee, that shall make a all-out endeavor to make this Diwali a pollution free festival. Dpsites prepared and put up several posters on the school buses exhorting one another and the youngsters of Siliguri to "Say no to Fire Crackers" , "Have a heart for our Elders". Lets give them peace not shock" and "Let's have a bright Diwali Not a noisy one ". Launching a awareness campaign against Sound Pollution, nearby 200 students of the school stood silent on both sides of Darjeeling bound NH-55 in front of the school at Dagapur with colourful and meaningful self-prepared placards and posters.

Delhi Public School, Siliguri, the latest of over 100 schools in India and abroad, standing elegantly and picturesquely in the sprawling grounds of Dagapur Valley besides the Siliguri-Darjelling Highway and the heritage Darjelling bound Toy Train tracks, started functioning academically on 7th April, 2003 from classes Nursery to Std. Six, under the AEGIS of the Delhi Public School Society, New Delhi.
Its Inaugural Function, aptly titled, "PRAYAAS", held on 4th May,2003 exemplified the DPS Thrust and Mission of pursuing 'Total Education Concept'. The Cultural Bonanza during the function comprised of items that were entertaining but chosen with an eye on fostering in young minds the imperative need and responsibility towards social commitment, inspirational song, symbolically rendered by teachers and students jointly, fusion dance, where children prayed to Krishna, Jesus, Allah and Guru Nanak to return and redeem mankind, a skit cum ballad based on conservation of nature, environment dance, yoga, aerobics and a foot-tapping Punjabi bhangra.
